Book Reviews of Yin Yoga

Book Review: Perfect accompaniment for yoga class
Summary: 4 Stars

My yoga teacher suggested Yin Yoga, and I'm glad she did. It gives us a written reference for many of the things we talk about and do in class. The author explains the chakras and yin and yang energies. He also gives photos and descriptions of many useful postures, along with some sample routines to try. It might be dangerous to try these postures without a teacher to make sure you're doing them right, but the book is a perfect supplement for my class.

Book Review: Excellent resource, buy the DVD as well
Summary: 5 Stars

I can remember sitting in Paul Grilleys seminar on Yin Yoga. For the first time I found a great yogi with an anatomists heart who kept hitting the nail on the head. If you have ever wondered why some poses are easy for some and impossible for others, read the book, get the DVD's and by all means go to his seminars. Pauls insights and teaching moved me from a curious yoga practitioner to working on my RYT with the Yoga Alliance. Great stuff.

Book Review: Yin Yoga by Paul Grilley
Summary: 4 Stars

Nice little book -- loads of information in a concise, easy to read format. Sample practices are useful, but you will need to memorize and understand them before practicing. The format of the book -- softcover, bound -- does not lend itself to being a useful "practice manual." The book won't really lay flat so that you can't refer to it or view specific postures, descriptions, or sequences readily while practicing.

Book Review: A different kind of yoga
Summary: 5 Stars

I am enjoying this book because so much of all we do in the gym is "yang" or muscular exercise . Paul's book describes how athletes can stretch and therefore protect the body by learning to stretch the joints and connective tissue . I am using this book as a reference in my teaching and personal practice . I am a runner, cyclist and fitness instructor who does not need Power yoga . This type of yoga is for me !

Book Review: a different approach to yoga
Summary: 5 Stars

Grilley's small, concise book details a different approach to yoga which goes against much I have learned in classes but which feels great. He recommends staying in poses for several minutes at a time, letting the breath flow naturally and letting this work the connective tissue of the body. The poses are. largely. traditional ones with different names but staying in the pose really gets deep into the joints!
