Book Reviews of Your Body Knows BestBook Review: Excellent!! Summary: 4 Stars
This book helped me a great deal in explaining how my body functions. For two and half years, I was a vegetarian and for some reason I continually gained weight. I did not understand how my low-fat to no-fat diet could cause me to gain weight and why my digestive system never seemed healthy. I knew something was intrinsically wrong, I just didn't know what. Fortunately, I happened upon Ann Louise's book where she explains that as a Northern European descendent, I simply need animal protein. I am now committed to a diet that is free of wheat and refined sugar products and full of animal protein. My weight gain and digestive problems have subsided. This book helps you understand that there is a definite language of the body, we just have to know how to listen. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is struggling with understanding their body, not necessarily out to lose weight, but to come back in balance to what your body's needs are. There are basic and simple, we just need to learn the language. I also recommend Ann Louises' other book "Super Nutrition for Women."
Book Review: Easy access to a nourishing diet Summary: 5 Stars
In her book 'The Body Knows Best' Gittleman delivers a complicated array of scientific and holistic theories in a clear, concise volume that speaks plainly to the lay person. She provides an over booked and highly stressed population with key information regarding the quickly expanding body of research on blood type and metabolic type as they relate to our diet. With these easily 'digested' concepts, readers gain key insights enabling them to substantially individualize and improve their diets. After guiding readers through the process of metabolic typing, the final chapters offer comprehensive menu plans for the various blood and metabolic type combinations. This is one of the books I highly recommend to my clients. Linda Vinecour, Holistic Health and Nutrition Counselor, A.A.D.P.
Book Review: Great Basic Nutrition Info! Summary: 5 Stars
Not the easiest book to begin reading but well worth getting through the first two chapters. By far one of the BEST books I have ever read on nutrition and common food myths (and I am an AVID reader). This book really helps you learn to explore the problems inherent in the modern American diet. Has a back to basics approach that really makes you think about what you are putting into your mouth and what it does for your body. Even without the personalized eating plans the information on Carbs, fats and proteins is something everyone (but especially perpetual dieters) needs to read and understand. Buy this book for your health and just to learn about food in general. You will change the way you think about food.
Book Review: Interesting but could be better organized Summary: 3 Stars
I took the metabolic type test in this book which determined that I am a fast burner. Since I am also blood type B and of northern European descent, my eating plan should include red meat and full-fat dairy products to keep me satiated for a longer period of time (than eating pure carbs would). However, I found that eating this way didn't really make me feel any fuller. I think the author's ideas are refreshing (that one type of diet isn't right for everyone, and that you need to experiment to find out what's right for you), but I thought the book could be better organized, especially in the section where the three eating profiles are listed.
Book Review: This book balanced my blood sugar and gave me more energy! Summary: 5 Stars
After years of being a vegetarian, then a low-fat carbo addict, I now, at age 45, have more energy, my allergies are dormant, and my female hormones are doing much better. I feel balanced! This book and also her book for women 35 and older, "Before the Change: Taking Charge of Your Perimenopause",have changed my life entirely. Highly recommended. Her writing style is not as "marketable" as some best-sellers, but just ignore that and take the information that fits for you. I did have to experiment quite a bit to find the right combinations of suggestions for me-but worth it.
