Book Reviews of Your Body's Many Cries for Water

Book Review: Very informative, but.....
Summary: 4 Stars

We all know to drink plenty of water every day, but the reason I think this book is worth the time, is that not every body knows why we need to drink two and a half liters of water every day. Not everyone knows we need salt in our food instead of avoiding it while increasing our intake of water.
This book includes interesting information about the relation between water intake and lack of sleep, overeating, tiredness, and other health problems.

The book also includes quotes at the beginning of most chapters; I honestly didn't see the connection between some of these quotes and the information presented. Another aspect that I didn't comprehend is the number of testimonies that the author felt obligated to include in his work. The info is sufficient without the large number of testimonies. After all, any reader will be looking at the scientific merit of the evidence, not for human validation of the author's presentation of the evidence.

Book Review: How Much Water Does the Human Body Need?
Summary: 4 Stars

The author points out that, especially in older people, thirst and dry mouth are unreliable indicators of the need for water. By the time these are experienced, dehydration is already well advanced. Water should not be confused with beverages that are mostly water. Their action on the body is not the same.

The author believes that many common conditions are, at least in part, forms of the body's cries for water. These can include peptic ulcers, heartburn, headaches, feeling faint when taking a hot shower, weight gain, asthma, and allergies.

Batmanghelidj contends that the human body needs a minimum of 6-8 eight-oz portions of water per day, on top of that necessary to correct for the diuretic effects of coffee, juices, etc. [I do not know if the preponderance of scientific evidence suggests the need for such an amount, but do know that drinking anywhere near this amount of water sends me to the bathroom many times a day.]

Book Review: Full of useful knowledge and advice
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a book that everybody in our western culture should own. It explains how we get sick and fat by drinking pop, coffee and alcohol instead of water. The good news is that we can get better and less heavy by just drinking between two and three liters of water a day. The big insight consists in the fact that our body needs water to function properly, water that cannot be replaced by any other fluids. Pop, coffee and alcohol in fact dehydrate us which means that the intake of these beverages has to be compensated by additional intake of water. As soon as you have read the first pages of the book, you will start to drink water because you learn that you will get seriously ill if you don't. This is important knowledge that we unfortunately don't get from our physicians. It is absolutely unbelievable how many conditions can be cured (and not only treated) by the correct intake of water. Go for this book!

Book Review: Great News !
Summary: 5 Stars

Though this book's writing style isn't the best as in a flowing literary style, the information it contains is of the utmost importance for our society. Dr. Batman has given each of us a valuable tool to fight diseases, stress, and depression. DRINK WATER ! How simple can it be ?? In our desire to have an easy life with conveniences galore, what could be simpler than drinking water ? I appreciate Dr. Batman's willingness to back his statements with studies and lab work. That can reach a certain group of skeptics. But it just makes sense that we become dehydrated and need water to restore our balance. We need to remember that we are 'bags of mostly water'.

Our society has become a 'chemical waste' and our children are suffering just as much as we are. We need to teach this simple principle and practice it.

Book Review: Can we trust what this doctor says?
Summary: 2 Stars

Beside the fact that this book is full of medical terms and figures that aren't necessarily needed, the book is chock-full with many testimonials from satisfied people that follow Dr. Batmanghelidj's suggestions, however the book lacks factual research to support his exaggerated claims. The testimonials comprise most of the book, not published research. While I do believe there is some truth to the benefits of drinking more water, this book is not the best resource of information, and I have not learned anything more than the very basics from reading it. I can summarize the book by just saying drink more water. I will be looking for a different book to give me more information on the importance of water quality, and how to obtain such quality. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. [...].
